Rick Ross is an American rapper and founder of Maybach Music Group. He was born William Leonard Roberts II on January 28, 1976, in Clarksdale, Mississippi. Ross grew up in Florida where he attended Carol City Senior High School. He later enrolled at Albany State University on a football scholarship. Growing up, Ross was influenced by street rappers like the Notorious B.I.G and Ice Cube. He worked 18 months as a correctional officer before taking up music full time.

CAREER
Ross was signed to the Miami-based label, Slip-n-Slide Records, in 2006. There he toured and performed with other rappers like Trick Daddy and Trina. His debut single “Hustlin” landed him a recording contract with then-president of Def Jam Records, Jay Z. Ross followed suit with the release of his debut studio album, Port of Miami, on August 8, 2006. The album peaked at #1 on the Billboard 200 and was later dubbed one of the best “coke rap” albums by Rhapsody. His second Billboard smashing album, Trilla, was released in 2008. The album was a Michael Jackson tribute and featured the hit singles “Speedin”, “The Boss” and “Here I Am”. Ross has since released several other albums including ‘Teflon Don (2010)’, ‘God Forgives, I Don’t (2012)’ and ‘Black Market (2015)’. He’s also collaborated with artists like R. Kelly, Lil Wayne and Young Jeezy. He’s signed to Epic Records as of January 2016.

Ross founded the record label, Maybach Music Group (MMG), in 2009. The label has released several successful albums including ‘Deeper Than Rap’, ‘The Gifted’, and ‘The Album About Nothing’. Artist currently signed to MMG includes Meek Mill, Omarion, Wale and French Montana.
