I love [name]Lola[/name] but strictly as a NN (we’re using [name]Lorelei[/name] as the FN) I just can’t see [name]Lola[/name] aging well. Also, I really dont think it works well with [name]Rowan[/name]. [name]Rowan[/name] is unisex and [name]Lola[/name] is very girly, like pp said if I saw the sibset on paper I’d think [name]Rowan[/name] was [name]Lola[/name]'s brother. I like the suggestion of [name]Harlow[/name] NN [name]Lola[/name] though. Something with the same sound but more edgy and not as frilly, [name]Zola[/name].
I like [name]Lola[/name]. I think its pretty and am also considering it for a future second daughter. The only thing that makes me hesitate is its meaning: “lady of sorrows.” If you’re not big into meanings then go for it.
I don’t mind [name]Lola[/name], it’s the 33rd most popular girl’s name so I’m expecting to meet a fair few [name]Lola[/name]'s soon. I don’t think [name]Rowan[/name] and [name]Lola[/name] go very well together, because if I saw that sibset I’d assume [name]Rowan[/name] was a boy. I think the suggestion of [name]Harlow[/name] is fabulous, or [name]Willow[/name] would work.
bcl23 May 17, 2012, 8:45am 12I love the name [name]Lola[/name]! Go for it
I personally don´t like [name]Lola[/name]… I see it as a nickname more than a name. It’s actually the nickname of my aunt [name]Dolores[/name].
I love [name]Lola[/name]!!
amyb2 May 17, 2012, 9:39am 15I’ll never be able to get over the connection with the novel [name]Lolita[/name], so the name makes me cringe.
I adore the name [name]Lola[/name], it’s just so peppy and sweet. I always get a little name crush-y when [name]Kelly[/name] Ripa talks about her daughter [name]Lola[/name].
I’m big on name songs however, so some of those Kinks lyrics would bother me. I’m a big weirdo about it though, so dont take that too seriously.
I’ll always think of [name]Lola[/name] by The Kinks. I do like the name, but that would definitely be my first thought.
My dd is named [name]Lola[/name], we get compliments all of the time on it, I was actually super upset when I saw it listed in parents magazine as a name parents are using right now because I like that it’s rare without being “out there” my dd is named after her great grandmother [name]Lola[/name]… A lot of berries say its a NN only but in reality it was high in the charts as a stand alone name in the 1800 and 1900s if you check the social security administration name database it will show it that [name]Lola[/name] has a very legitimate history as a first name
So-so. Getting overused, but really like abbreviated Lo.
Does no-one else think of [name]Lolita[/name]??
I have a 1 yo niece named [name]Lola[/name], and she certainly exudes cuteness and spunk like her name! It’s personally nms, and I agree with others when they say it might not age well into adulthood. I can’t really imagine a powerful business woman named [name]Lola[/name], but thats just my opinion. Some FN options with NN [name]Lola[/name]:
already suggested, but I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Harlow[/name] with [name]Rowan[/name]
[name]Marlo[/name]/[name]Marlow[/name]/[name]Marlowe[/name]
Shiloh
[name]Louisa[/name]
[name]Eloise[/name]
[name]Elodie[/name]
[name]Paloma[/name]
[name]Penelope[/name]
[name]Logan[/name]
[name]Laura[/name]/[name]Lauren[/name]/[name]Laurel[/name]
NN only. [name]Lola[/name] sounds like she works in the “adult” industry. I feel the same way about [name]Coco[/name]
I also think of [name]Lolita[/name]
I like it a lot. I don’t think it’s a good style match with [name]Rowan[/name], if that’s important to you.
Like Jessicat11 said the meaning isn’t that pleasant. But I [name]LOVE[/name] the suggestion of [name]Harlow[/name] nn [name]Lola[/name] ! I think [name]Harlow[/name] and [name]Rowan[/name] make an ADORABLE sibset!
I love it! I think it’s short and sweet.
I like it, and it sounds like if it’s the only one you get excited about, you have your answer! No need to convince the jury of name berries
Thanks everybody for the honesty. I really love [name]Lola[/name], but I am worried about pairing it with [name]Rowan[/name]. I guess I’ll keep looking for something that matches better…
While I like the name [name]Lola[/name], and part of me does think it’s adorable (especially as a nickname), I can’t get that song about a transvestite out of my head. I can’t believe no one has mentioned it. “[name]Lola[/name] L-O-L-A, [name]Lola[/name]” “Well, I’m not dumb, and I understand why she walks like a woman and talks like a man…[name]Lola[/name], Lo Lo Lo Lo [name]Lola[/name]” It’s an old song, but most people have probably heard it. I imagine any girl named [name]Lola[/name] has had it annoyingly sung to her at some point. Google the lyrics and you’ll see why I can’t get past the association. The trouble is, it’s such a catchy song, too - one that you could get stuck in your head. I guess if you don’t know the song, you’re ok, though!
ozdust May 18, 2012, 7:07am 28I love [name]Lola[/name], it was one of the first names I liked! I think I was about 8.
